Often seen strutting through city squares or soaring above urban landscapes, the pigeon is a bird many recognize but few truly understand. When we speak of “pigeons,” we are most often referring to the Rock Dove, Columba livia. This species is the ancestor of all domestic pigeons and the familiar feral pigeons found in cities worldwide.
